In early October 2026, RefWorks will become EndNote Fusion.
Users who access RefWorks will be automatically redirected to the EndNote Fusion URL.
No action is required, and existing workflows will continue to work:
- There are no changes to authentication workflows, including current Single-Sign On (SSO).
- All existing accounts, references, projects, folders, attachments, tags, custom citation styles and sharing permissions will transfer automatically.
There is no plan for any downtime during this change.
Follow the recommendations below and use the provided assets to announce EndNote Fusion to users. Proactively updating library pages, community resources, and communications will help ensure a smooth transition.
Support materials, including links to videos, training guides, FAQs, and help articles will be added to this page on an ongoing basis. Check back regularly for the latest information.
Recommendations
- Review email delivery settings
Notify the Information Technology or Security department to ensure that automated emails from EndNote Fusion, sent from the @clarivate.com email domain, are allowed and not blocked by spam or email security filters.
This action will facilitate delivery of emails related to: welcome, onboarding, account verification, password reset request, folder sharing notifications, SSO credential association, data requests, admin invitations, bulk attachment export notifications, and admin file download notifications. - Review and update any of the following resources to reflect the EndNote Fusion name and branding:
- Library web pages
- Library search results
- Research guides
- User instructions
- Training materials
- Community forums
- Internal knowledge bases
- Faculty syllabi
- FAQs and support articles
- User notifications: End users will be notified of the transition to EndNote Fusion through a persistent in-app banner in RefWorks and RefWorks Citation Manager (RCM). Institutions may also choose to communicate the transition directly to their users. Clarivate will not send email communications to end users regarding this transition.
- Update library and support resources, this includes any user-facing materials to reflect the EndNote Fusion brand and URLs.
- Update mentions of RefWorks to EndNote Fusion
- Update links to RefWorks to point to the new EndNote Fusion URL: https://fusion.endnote.com/

- Update tech support contact email to: fusion.endnote.support@clarivate.com
- Update search and discovery tools
- If library search or user interface is managed or customized by the institution:
Replace references to RefWorks with EndNote Fusion for direct export options and integration links. - If library search or user interface is not managed or customized by the institution:
Clarivate is proactively contacting external discovery and content providers to request these updates. However, we cannot guarantee when individual providers will implement them. - Existing export workflows will continue to function without interruption. In places where RefWorks branding remains, users will still be directed to EndNote Fusion.
- If library search or user interface is managed or customized by the institution:
- Review and update information about citation writing tools.
- [optionally include message] No action is required for existing RefWorks Citation Manager (RCM) users. The writing tools will work seamlessly without reinstallation or additional downloads.
- Update RCM name to EndNote Fusion for Word or EndNote Fusion for Google Docs, where appropriate.
- If the Microsoft Word add-in or Google Docs add-on is centrally managed, inform the appropriate team(s) of the name change.
- Introduce the new browser extension.
- EndNote Fusion introduces a new browser extension that provides a more powerful and user-friendly way to save references, PDFs, and web content than the traditional Save to RefWorks bookmarklet.
- Links for the EndNote Fusion browser extension will be available when EndNote Fusion launches.
- The current bookmarklet will be renamed Save to EndNote Fusion and will be available for users who prefer to continue to use it.
- New installations of the existing bookmarklet will no longer be available.

Planned Features
The final list of all new features will be fully documented in the Release Notes.
Find Full Text in Bulk
This feature allows users to select up to 250 references at a time and request that EndNote Fusion search for and attach available full-text PDFs in bulk. When searching for full-text articles, EndNote Fusion uses trusted sources including PubMed Central, Unpaywall, Crossref and DOI.org.
To locate available PDFs, EndNote Fusion uses identifiers associated with each reference, including DOI (Digital Object Identifier), PMID (PubMed Identifier) and PMCID (PubMed Central Identifier).
EndNote Fusion only attaches PDFs that are available through permitted sources and respects applicable copyright and licensing restrictions.
All features are enabled by default at launch. Institutional admins can enable or disable this feature for their organization at any time.
Research Assistant
This feature enhances the PDF reading experience by helping users quickly understand and interact with document content. With the AI-powered PDF Assistant, users can:
- Generate a summary of the document's key findings and takeaways.
- Ask questions about the document using natural language and receive answers based only on the content of the PDF being read.
- Translate PDF content into supported languages directly within the application.
EndNote Fusion Research Assistant uses a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) approach, which generates responses based solely on the content of the selected document. Document content is not used to train AI models, and information is not shared outside the application.
Additional details about the Research Assistant, including security, privacy, and usage considerations, will be provided in the Release Notes and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) when it becomes available.
All features are enabled by default at launch. Institutional admins can enable or disable this feature for their organization at any time.
Find a Journal
This feature helps authors identify suitable journals for manuscript submission. By providing a manuscript title and abstract, users can receive journal recommendations powered by Web of Science that are tailored to the manuscript's subject matter and scope.
It is available directly within EndNote Fusion for Word and EndNote Fusion for Google Docs, allowing authors to evaluate potential publication venues without leaving their writing environment.
All features are enabled by default at launch. Institutional admins can enable or disable this feature for their organization at any time.
Endnote Fusion browser extension
This feature allows users to save content from websites directly to their EndNote Fusion library while browsing the web.
Where full text is available, the extension can automatically attach full-text PDFs associated with the selected content.
The extension can also capture and save relevant webpage content as a snapshot, allowing users to view the saved webpage later in the EndNote Fusion reader.
